Cut it up, quilt it fast, and transform that UFO into a show-stopping wall quilt!
TRANSFORM A UFO INTO A UNIQUE PIECE OF QUILTED WALL ART!
6 hours: Give new life to an unfinished quilt or workshop sample by transforming it into a dimensional wall piece! In this fun, adventurous workshop, we’ll cut, quilt, and reshape your UFO into playful disks. First, we will stitch layers of machine quilting using a walking foot or free-motion foot, explore two simple finishing methods, then add optional Sashiko-inspired hand stitching for extra texture. Finally, we’ll arrange your disks into an overlapping composition to create a unique 3D wall quilt. Come ready to experiment—remember, it’s only fabric, you can always get more!

Workshop Overview
Cut up an existing quilt top into manageable sizes: 12″ x 12″ to 18″ x 30″ max. Start with 3 to 5 units, and layer these pieces up with batting and backing: this is a chance to experiment with different types batting if you like! For extra strength and stability, add in medium weight stabilizer. I’ll guide you through my ideas for layered walking foot quilting and free motion quilting. We will then cut our quilted units into disks of varying sizes.

Finish the disks in one of two ways: add an envelope style backing, or finish with a quick machine binding. Experiment with arranging the quilted disks in various compositions, taking photos as you go. Machine-sew the disks together into a final composition. Add O-rings to the back for hanging. Enjoy your UFO Flying Disks quilt!
I will provide full hands-on instructions in class. Any style of unfinished quilt top will do; we will transform it into something new!
This is an all-levels workshop. You should be comfortable using your sewing machine, and it should be in good working order. I look forward to sharing and sewing with you!
