夏 Natsu (Summer) No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 are light, summery pieces I made partially for a purpose, and partially just for fun! Sometimes I need a little nudge to make some new work, and sometimes it just flows out of me. These small modern quilted pieces are a bit of both! I love their sunny, summery bright feeling. There are three small square pieces, and one tall piece.

I was invited to be a guest on Quilting Arts TV, and needed to bring several examples of how I like to work on my modern quilts. These pieces were the result of my “Backing, Binding, Batting, Beauty” segment where I showed the evolution of a quilt from sketch to finished product. Check your local PBS TV listings in the fall of 2025, when my episodes of Quilting Arts TV will air!

I find that I get more quilted art finished in a shorter time if I prepare my backing, binding and batting first, then work on the fun of creating the quilt front. Everything comes together more quickly, and I enjoy the process so much more. I use the time that I’m preparing my elements to think about what the quilt will be, visualizing and planning how it will come together.

My quilt labels are inkjet printed, and I have a lecture called Quilt Labels to Love! which quilt guilds can book as a virtual or in-person event.
