These stitched paper collage pieces incorporate my original photography with abstracted typographic elements in a limited palette. I enjoy exploring the interplay of shapes, organic and man-made, and have overlayed a “figure” element using translucent materials: an antique tulle-like fabric from Japan and some tracing paper.

Looking closely at the details of these pieces, you can see the machine stitching and overlays of paper and fabric I used:
I love the interplay between white, cobalt blue, and black in these pieces. The overlapping layers add subtle in-between shades and the sewing machine stitching provides movement and rhythm. In my mind, these pieces are very musical, with a large dynamic range within a limited palette.
