The quilts in Inspired Settings: The Art and Collection of Matt Macomber are a mix of vintage and antique pieces with new works inspired by bold and graphic compositions of quilts of the past. This exhibit of 27 quilts, currently on display through July 4, 2021, is at the Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Arts Museum in La Conner, WA.

Old quilts and blocks, given new life by a modern quilter

Matt’s collection of vintage and antique quilts includes examples of unusual settings of blocks, exciting use of print and color, and other out-of-the-ordinary elements combined to create dynamic quilts.

His new quilted works draw inspiration from elements of vintage and antique quilts, often incorporating found blocks or vintage fabrics.

Matt Macomber joined David Owen Hastings on Weds., May 26, 2021 via Zoom for a conversation about his show. We discussed 7 select quilts from the exhibit, all of which Matt resurrected by setting the blocks and completing the quilts (or designed from scratch, in once case). Some of these quilts were started over 100 years ago. Learn about the history of the fabrics, colors, and designs of these gorgeous heirloom pieces.
