IN-PERSON RETREAT: Inspired by Art
EMPTY SPOOLS SEMINARS: This is a rare opportunity to take my popular Inspired by Art workshop in a multi-day retreat format! You will finish a small modern abstract quilt in the time we have together.
Starting with a favorite work of art, develop your own unique modern quilt design. Be inspired by shapes, colors, structure, or the feeling you get and design a block or whole quilt with an eye on modern minimalism.
Bring your own photo of a work of art, and we will explore the many ways you can take inspiration from it to develop your own full quilt design. We will break down the image to its most basic elements, create a rough drawing, then start building a test block using improv techniques. I will demonstrate sewing curves without pins, and without fear. I will also teach my approach to layered walking foot quilting, plus face binding for a modern finish.
This workshop is a five-day in-person event. We will have the luxury of nearly a week of workshop time to design and develop a beautiful modern quilt in a gorgeous setting.
