The genesis of this diptych was a series of photos I took of targets, spray-painted on concrete. These were spots marking where parking meters were to be installed, but I saw them as interesting, graphic shapes… almost like a secret alphabet. I paired the grey, black and white photos with my monotype prints and photos of lichen-covered walls in brilliant greens. After adding stitching for both structure and movement, I layered on transparent cell-like shapes, floating over the grid below. I’ve always loved the contrast of hard and soft, straight lines against curved ones. (Part of the Urban Skin series.)
